IT Project Manager
Location: Chicago, IL (Hybrid Schedule)
Type: Contract – Long Term (6–12-month CTH)

This company is recognized for its forward-thinking initiatives in Distributed Energy Resources (DER), Energy Storage Systems (BESS), and Distributed Energy Resource Management Systems (DERMS). We are seeking an IT Project Manager with experience managing innovative IT projects, particularly in energy or utility settings, to oversee strategic initiatives and collaborate with diverse stakeholders. Responsibilities
- Lead cross-functional IT projects focused on grid modernization, DER, DERMS, and energy storage (BESS).
- Drive end-to-end project management, from planning and execution to delivery, ensuring alignment with business goals.
- Collaborate with internal IT teams, vendors, and external stakeholders to navigate first-time initiatives and manage approval processes.
- Manage projects tied to federal and state grant opportunities, ensuring compliance with funding requirements.
- Act as a key liaison between IT teams, regulatory bodies, and business leaders to ensure seamless integration and execution of strategic initiatives.
- Develop project roadmaps, timelines, and deliverables, ensuring adherence to budget and quality standards.
- Monitor project performance, identify risks, and implement mitigation strategies as needed.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- 5+ years of IT project management experience, preferably within the energy or utilities sector.
- PMP certification or equivalent; Agile/Scrum certifications (CSM, SAFe) are a plus.
- Proven ability to manage innovative, first-time projects involving new technologies or processes.
- Experience coordinating large, cross-functional teams across IT and business units.
- Familiarity with energy-related technologies such as DERMS, BESS, or similar systems is highly desirable.
- Strong communication skills and stakeholder management experience.
- Proficiency in project management tools (e.g., JIRA, Microsoft Project) and data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI).
- Experience with federal and state grant-funded projects is a significant advantage.
Preferred Qualifications
- Understanding of real-time systems and their integration with IT infrastructure.
- Previous experience working on utility-focused innovation projects, such as grid modernization or energy storage.
- Strong analytical skills to assess project performance and drive data-driven decisions.
